Overview of Location
Embark on a 3-day, 2-night adventure through Sabah's natural wonders. Begin with an up-close encounter with orangutans at the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre and sun bears at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Journey to Bilit Rainforest Lodge for immersive river cruises along the Kinabatangan River, offering opportunities to observe Borneo's unique wildlife. Explore the Gomantong Caves, renowned for their impressive limestone formations and swiftlet nests. This itinerary provides a comprehensive experience of Sabah's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Sandakan / Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre / Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Bilit Rainforest Lodge / Kinabatangan River Cruise
- Begin with a pick-up from your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
- Visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre to observe orangutans in their natural habitat.
- Proceed to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about the world's smallest bear species.
- Travel to Bilit Jetty, followed by a boat transfer to Bilit Rainforest Lodge.
- After check-in and lunch, embark on an evening river cruise along the Kinabatangan River to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys and various bird species.
- Return to the lodge for dinner and an optional guided night walk.
Day 2: Morning River Cruise or Jungle Trek / Bilit Rainforest Lodge
- Start the day with an early morning river cruise or a jungle trek to Oxbow Lake for birdwatching and wildlife spotting.
- Return to the lodge for breakfast.
- Enjoy leisure time until lunch.
- In the late afternoon, embark on another river cruise to explore different sections of the Kinabatangan River.
- Dinner is served upon return, followed by free time to relax.
Day 3: Gomantong Cave / Sandakan
- After breakfast, check out from the lodge.
- Drive to Gomantong Caves to explore the limestone cave system and learn about swiftlet nest harvesting.
- Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
- Transfer back to Sandakan for drop-off at your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
