Overview of Location
Experience the best of Sabah's natural wonders with this 2D1N adventure. Witness the iconic orangutans at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, explore the pristine rainforests of Bilit Rainforest Lodge, and embark on river cruises along the Kinabatangan River to spot wildlife in their natural habitat. This journey also takes you to the Gomantong Caves, famous for their swiftlet nests and dramatic limestone formations, offering a perfect mix of wildlife encounters and cultural insights.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Sandakan / Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre / Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Bilit Rainforest Lodge / Kinabatangan River Cruise
- Begin with a pick-up from your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
- Visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre to observe orangutans in their natural habitat and learn about their rehabilitation.
- Continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to discover the world’s smallest bear species.
- Travel two hours through countryside villages to Bilit Jetty, followed by a short boat ride to Bilit Rainforest Lodge.
- Enjoy a welcome drink, check-in, and lunch at the lodge.
- In the evening, embark on a scenic river cruise along the Kinabatangan River to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, rare birds, and possibly pygmy elephants.
- Return to the lodge for dinner and relax for the night.
Day 2: Gomantong Cave / Sandakan
- After breakfast, check out and travel to the Gomantong Caves.
- Explore this fascinating limestone cave system, home to millions of bats and swiftlets, and learn about traditional bird nest harvesting.
- Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Sandakan with drop-off at your hotel or airport.
